3.4.1 Base and rocker. The base and rocker shall be of cast iron or cast
steel and of the strength to withstand the maximum rated capacity of the press
without failure or damage to the press or press components. The base and
rocker shall be provided with holes for installing pins at the pivot points of
the press. provisions for securing a hydraulic cylinder shall be provided in
the base. Means for connecting the base, rocker, and hydraulic cylinder shall
be integral of the press. The jaw portion of the rocker and base shall be
machined providing a smooth flat surface for mounting a die plate.
3.4.2 Hydraulic system. The hydraulic
system shall
consist of a
hydraulic pump, a hydraulic cylinder complete with piston, fittings, necessary
piping, hoses and control valves. A pressure relief valve, preset in
accordance with the manufacturer's recommended pressure shall be provided.
Means shall be provided to prevent extension of the piston shaft beyond its
normal limit. The hydraulic system shall meet or exceed the requirements of
JIC-H-1.
shall
assembly. The hydraulic pump assembly

provide the pressure to comply with the requirements specified herein.
3.4.2.2 Filtration system. The fluid filtration system shall provide
clean fluid to the hydraulic system. The type filter used shall be the
manufacturer's standard type filter.
3.4.2.3 Fluid reservoir. The fluid reservoir shall be designed to be
filled not less than 1-1/4 times the volume required to fill the hydraulic
System l The reservoir shall have a cleanout opening, a means for draining
fluid, a filler strainer, and a means for determining fluid level.
3.4.3 Die mounting plates. The press shall have the necessary holes,
slots, and guides for mounting die plates to the upper and lower jaws. The
die mounting plates shall have provisions for mounting die clamps. The
mounting plates and die clamps shall have means for securing and aligning the
swaging dies.
3.4.4 Electrical requ irements. The electrical system shall be wired to
conform to NFPA 79. Unless otherwise specified (see 6.2), each press shall
be wired to operate on dual 3 phase, 60 Hertz (Hz), 230/460 volts. Conversion
from one voltage to the other shall be accomplished by reconnection of
existing components. The press shall be initially wired as specified (see
6.2).
3.4.4.1 Motors. Motors shall be rated for continuous duty and shall have
ball or roller bearings of the scald and permanently lubricated type. Unless
otherwise specified (see 6.2) , each motor shall have a dripproof enclosure.
a worklight shall be
3.4.5 Worklight. When specified (see 6.2),
provided. The light shall have a protective shield, an on-off switch, and
shall be adjustable to reflect maximum light on the work area.
