The frame shall be fabricated of structural steel sections
3.2 Frame.
consisting of a headrail, worktable, siderails, lower spacer bars and legs.
All components shall be fastened together by bolts or by welding, or a
combination of bolting and welding. Regardless of the method used, the press
shall have the strength to withstand not less than 1-1/2 times the maximum
rated tonnage capacity of the press. The headrail shall support the hydraulic
cylinder and ram assembly. The headrail and all other crossmembers shall
provide the strength to maintain parallelism of the side members. The frame
shall be supported by legs of the length and strength to provide stability to
the press when loaded to maximum pressing capacity. The ram axis shall be
perpendicular to the worktable within an accuracy of 0.120 inch per foot.
3.3 Siderails, worktable, and support pins. The siderails shall have a
series of equally spaced holes. The worktable shall have matching holes to the
siderails.
Not less than two steel pins shall be provided for supporting the
worktable to the siderails. The pins shall be shaped for easy insertion and
removal from the holes. The shear strength of the pins shall be not less than
1-1/2 times the tonnage rating of the press. The pin hole spacing in all
members shall have the accuracy to ensure that all pins support equal loads
when pressing force is centered between the headrail and the worktable. A
winch type lifting device for raising and lowering the worktable shall be
provided.
The hydraulic system shall conform to or exceed the
3.4 Hydraulic system.
requirements of National Fluid Power Association (NFPA/JIC) T2.24.1. The
hydraulic system shall be capable of exerting 100 percent of the rated
tonnage.
3.4.1 Cylinder and ram assembly. Unless otherwise specified (see 7.1), the
press shall be furnished with a fixed type cylinder and ram assembly. When
specified (see 7.1), a moveable type assembly which is adjustable horizontally
along the headrail shall be furnished. The moveable assembly shall have a
means of being clamped or locked at any position within its range of travel.
Provisions to prevent extension of the ram beyond its normal "end-of-stroke"
position shall be provided.
3.4.2 Hydraulic pump. The hydraulic pump shall be electric motor driven.
The pump shall be manufaturer's standard pump offered to the commercial
market.
3.5 Work support devices. The press shall be furnished with two flat work
support devices and two "V" type support devices. The devices shall be
moveable along the entire length of the worktable. The devices shall have a
means to prevent them from sliding off the worktable. A single pair of
invertible support devices suitable for supporting flat workplaces on one
side, and round workplaces on the other side, may be furnished in lieu of the
two pairs. Regardless of the type work support devices furnished, they shall
withstand repeated pressing forces.
3.6 Pressure gage. A pressure gauge calibrated to read in tons of ram
force shall be furnished.
